While studying at the University of Science and Technology in Kumasi Ghana as a Getty fellow, I had the honor of visiting the campus based primary schools. This gave me the opportunity to visit with faculty and students. The school yard resembled the rhythms and movement I had been exploring in writing about aesthetics. Kumasi Playground reminded me not only of the playgrounds on which I grew up on in Washington D.C. , but the universality of play.
